valentinite: riffraff from the Catillac Cats cartoon (patroklos/akhilleus)

From [livejournal.com profile] murasaki_kaze and [livejournal.com profile] nest, but as I'm posting from lunch break I'm not dealing with linking icons and all the formatting. Just the tl;dr.

cut for tl;dr and heteronormative characters orz. )
I am still Obscurity Girl, it seems. And I picked too-obscure options for some of the less-obscure canons.

Note: for who guessed what, see my previous entry. I am just being very lazy here and tossing in the cheatsheet I put together initially.

I still owe comments and tags, and have a bunch to do around the house. So what better to do than waste time on a meme.

TVTropes meme: go to Better Than It Sounds and find some shows/books/whatever that you like. List 20, let people guess.

Fairly random collection, as I went sort of randomly diving through the lists after a bunch of ones I looked for weren't there, looking for things I recognized that were at least halfway amusing. ...And I added one to TVTropes, but it's probably not any of the ones you're thinking of.

Note: I edited one of these to remove what felt like a unnecessary reference to triggering content.

some of these sound pretty good, actually )

Ages ago [livejournal.com profile] wariena gave me five questions. Now I'm finally answering them.

Leave a comment with your favorite emoticon \(O_o)/ ~
- I'll respond by asking you five questions to satisfy my curiosity.
- Update your journal with the answers to your questions (if you want).
- Include this explanation and offer to ask other people questions (if you want).

So, now that I'm something resembling caught up on posts -- picspam time.

Ang asked for photos of my office with these stickers, and I finally remembered to take my camera along. I didn't get the other photo I'd meant to -- it's gotten too light in the mornings for the South Station clock to be lit. I'll have to swing by at night some time.

and so it begins )

So there's doing canon reviews by rereading/watching/playing the source. And there's the fun sort. Bike-riding through Allston/Brighton is that one, and last Saturday I went rambling since it was one of the first really gorgeous days of spring. I didn't take many pictures; I'm generally terrible about that. But the Harvard Stadium seemed ripe for icon-ing (if I ever send S.T. to the basement I will have a Coliseum picture all handy), and I am possibly the last Gyakusai fan in Boston to notice the second, but...

a handful of pictures )

Then I bought a ton of beans and spices at an Indian grocery, went and watched [livejournal.com profile] jennifer sing and dance, picked up grapefruit bitters at the new cocktail shop (yes, really, wtf) and cruised home to put together a Passover Seder shopping list. Sunday was spent in the kitchen being productive, because cooking is something I haven't done nearly as much as I'd like of.

pictures and possibly recipes if anyone wants 'em )
I have a stack of photos, a bunch of ramblings, some recipes, and Strange Journey and new Who reactions, but I am still not feeling human enough to manage to string words together past managing a pair of not-great-but-hopefully-IC posts for Lana and Taura.

Bleah. Stupid head colds. Not even a real 'flu or anything; just a cold that keeps sucking the energy away. I'm mostly not feeling sick any more, but I'm still sleeping 13+ hours out of every 24, and spending a few more sort of blinking at things. I did manage to go to work on Friday, but I haven't been good for much else.

So eventually I will get caught up and share pictures of cake and new icon-fodder for S.T. (I went biking in Brighton last Saturday on what was intended as a canon review before flinging him into NS but I'm, uh, still behind on that) and reply to a zillion non-RP comments in my inbox -- but not today.
The How's My Driving? Meme

Yeah, yeah, I always post these. But at least now I have a character that's a little more well-known?

Question (which I already asked on plurk but I think this is an entirely non-overlapping subset)!

If I were hypothetically going to be in Vancouver for a week in the summer, what should I not miss? (Honeymoon, so swank restaurants and stupidly cute stuff is actually a plus. Outdoors-y not a priority as we're going canoe camping on the Powell Lakes for a week first.)

Also good god this week has tried to kill me. sorry if I've snapped at anyone; I *know* I did IRL.
I rarely do these writing memes, because I am slower than heck and often fail at writing anything resembling an array of characters, but! I will give this one a shot. You just might get stuff that's very tangential or completely random, but I will write something.

Write something for me. Just for me. Post it in your journal so everyone else can see it, too. A sentence, a paragraph. Nanofiction. Short story. A scene, dialogue, a picture described, a moment, anything. Long or short. But it’s got to be just for me. Tell the world you wrote it for me, even. Mine.

Then feel free to put this up in your own journal, and I'll reciprocate.

And the one that sparked me putting this up, for [livejournal.com profile] jennifer, because there is no coffee or tea at Landel's:

Lana and Edgeworth, not long after SL-9 )
So [livejournal.com profile] wariena plays Inspector Lunge, and he is awesome. So I convinced the library to lend me Monster, a bit at a time, and am slowly working through it when I have time.

And since I am on the train but too bleah to write, I will tl;dr at you instead.

Spoilers up through volume 10... )

doing this this way as I am tired and logged in from work: I have a tearing headache and likely won't be posting much tonight. :| Apologies to Kaze and Ang. Especially when I went to bed reasonably early yesterday so I could be productive today. (Which is a grr in more ways than just RP, obviously.)

This is what happens when you let me loose on GIMP when punchy.

One icon, but behind the cut as it is a) animated and b) contains sprites from Ace Attorney Investigations. (Not a breakdown sprite; just a standard one for a new character who is introduced in Case 3.)

but it can't hurt to have a spoiler cut )
valentinite: Phoenix hugging Edgeworth (phoenix/edgeworth)
( Feb. 26th, 2010 11:33 pm)
Okay, in entirely too much TL;DR, my thoughts on Ace Attorney Investigations. (I have no Edgeworth icons. I should fix that. Though that's partly because almost all my PW icons are snagged from past and present RP journals, and I cannot write Edgeworth to save my soul.)

Spoilers. For the whole game, not necessarily in any order. Wait to read this if you haven't finished. )
Because I went back to work today despite still being sick, I am doing memes instead of a) running Taura around like a crazy thing or b) looking at Lana's thread, since I'm too tired to do the cross-checking I still need when posting her. Tomorrow morning, I promise. There will be laptop onna train.

Or even c) writing up my thoughts on AA:I in these things we call sentences.

Instead, I will ramble about characters present and not-actually-potential (as I am slightly past the number I can handle, but hopefully once Lana becomes non-brand-new I'll be okay) while watching bobsleds and feeling sorry for myself.

muse status report )
I did finish AA:I this morning, and I do have an incoherent running log of reaction bullet points, but I have not had the brain to format it. But at least I am spoiler-proof. I'll post the actual thoughts later.

If anyone posted interesting meta or reactions, feel free to link them.

(SPOILERS ALLOWED IN COMMENTS. ANYONE STILL PLAYING, AVOID.)

I'm still under the weather, but this evening had started being more awake and stir-crazy, so hopefully I'll be back to 90% or so tomorrow. And now to bed, in hopes of ensuring this.
valentinite: Phoenix hugging Edgeworth (phoenix/edgeworth)
( Feb. 16th, 2010 07:36 pm)
I have acquired AAI! And begun playing! And that is pretty much all I am going to say on that until I've finished it.

I'm remarkably susceptible to feeling I must agree with other people's opinions, especially on things like tv/movies/games, and I want to play it straight-up. I've seen some sprite sheets, and heard the music, and that's about it.

I will be taking playthrough notes and doing a spoiler review at the end, but until I've done that, I'm ignoring all of the communities and discussion posts. See ya on the flip side.

And I'm not going to race the playthrough -- I'll play on the train and that's about it. So it'll take a little while. And keep me not wanting to kill everyone ever in the interim, hopefully. (Stress is not related to y'all, I promise.)

Interesting article on Kotaku (hat tip to my college friend S., who mentioned it on his blog but I won't link as it's flocked).

The Daddening of Video Games -- on demographics of characters as the video game generation grows up. Nothing deep, but kind of interesting.
Okay, this won't be applicable until I stop going ARRRRGH and make a second stab at Nyx (died on the final form with her HP down so far there was no bar, because I was dumb and went too aggressive, but I had the levels and the Personae), but I'm pretty much done with P3. Which means I need something else to play.

[Poll #1525580]
Yeah, yeah, everyone's posting it.

The How's My Driving? Meme

Also, I'm repeating the offer to buy a used copy of Zodiac for any [livejournal.com profile] damnedite who wants one. With the caveat that if everyone wants one I might pick the first N replies. International OK as long as I can find a reasonable shipping option.

I like memes that are random prompts to tl;dr. So have one, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] thebigkaboosh.
Leave a comment saying, "COMMENT" and I will give you five words I associate with you. Then post about what they mean to you, along with this at your journal.

EDIT: formatting fail also fixed; some day I will learn not to post long memes from Lynx.

She gave me Weddings, SCIENCE!, Video Games, Honesty, and Prose.
Pre-emptive cut as I cannot imagine being succinct. )
